Anti-riot police on Wednesday morning used teargas to disperse Kisumu County Assembly Members who had gathered to prevent Speaker Onyango Oloo from entering his office.

It was a dramatic morning at Kisumu County headquarters as MCAs allied to Onyango Oloo and those opposed to him engaged the police in running battles.

The development comes just days after the Members of County Assembly sought to replace the former TNA Party Secretary-General MCA Elisha Oraro of Kisumu North Ward.

The MCAs cited several grounds for their planned ouster which is yet to materialise as the motion, sponsored by Kondele Ward MCA Joachim Oketch, is yet to be debated.

Onyango Oloo told KTN News recently that he would not seek intervention from the corridors of justice because as far as he was concerned; no court order was barring him from accessing his office as a substantive speaker.

Oloo is facing corruption charges regarding the Sh4.1 billion Kisumu Lake Basin Mall, which was put up when he was serving as the Chair of Lake Basin Development Authority.
