Police smash highway robbery racket, arrest three

Police in Machakos have smashed a highway robbery cartel believed to have been behind a series of carjacking activities along Konza-Machakos bypass off Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.

Three suspects have been arrested and several assorted goods and documents suspected to have been stolen from victims recovered in a Wednesday night raid.

The operation was mounted by police officers under the command of Machakos Sub County Police Commander, Joseph Tenai.

The suspects were smoked out of their hideout in Kyamutheke Village in the outskirts of Machakos Town by detectives who were acting on intelligence reports.

While addressing the press in Machakos Thursday morning, Tenai identified those in police custody as Nicholas Ndunda Kakui, Patrick Musau Kakui and James Malumbi Kamii.

Police also recovered a mobile phone valued at Sh56,000 two car radio systems, car speakers, spikes used to deflate car tires on the road and other assorted goods from the suspects.

“The suspects were also involved in another robbery incident at Kapiti Plains on July 3, 2018 where a 30-year old motorist was killed and a number of items stolen from him,” Tenai said.

He said the suspects will be charged in court after police conclude investigations.
