Boys dormitory at Chemitan Academy razed on opening day

A boys dormitory at Chemitan Academy in Bureti Constituency has been burnt down and property belonging to at least 50 pupils destroyed.

Bureti Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Felicia Nafula said that the pupils were in their classrooms for their evening preps when the dormitory caught fire.

Property estimated to be worth Sh500, 000 was destroyed during the Monday 8 pm incident which occurred just hours after pupils had reported back to school for the third term.

“No one was injured during the incident. We have launched investigations over what might have caused the fire,” said Nafula.

The OCPD added that it took the intervention of members of the public to put out the fire before the county fire engine arrived at the scene.

“The scene has been cordoned off awaiting scenes of crime personnel for photographing and further investigation,” he said.
