Contractors’ fate: State to pay out Sh10.9 billion next week

The national government is set to pay Sh10.9 billion owed to contractors next week.

Government spokesman Col (Rtd) Cyrus Oguna (pictured) assured contractors that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive on clearance of pending bills will be implemented.

Oguna blamed delays in payment on auditing.

He was speaking during a briefing at the recently opened Mbeere South Constituency Innovation Hub at Kiritiri town in Embu County, yesterday.

Oguna, at the same time, assured Huduma Namba clerks that they will paid their wages in two weeks’ time.

“The government is aware that the people who carried out the Huduma Namba registration have not all been paid, but I want to assure them that they will be paid in two weeks. The money is being paid in phases,” he said.

The Government spokesman noted that on Digital Literacy Programme, some 19,666 schools have been supplied with devices that have digital content for Grade One to Three while 200,000 teachers have been trained.

More than 22,980 schools have also been connected to electricity. Oguna said distribution of devices to the remaining 2,063 schools starts on July 15.
