UON student arrested for blackmailing Njoro MP

Police have arrested a student of the University of Nairobi for sending blackmailing messages to Njoro Member of Parliament Charity Chepkwony.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, the 30-year-old suspect who has been identified as Alex Anyolo had tried on multiple occasions to extort the legislator.

“A 30-year-old Masters student at UON has been arrested by DCI detectives from the Headquarters following a threatening report made by the Hon. Charity Chepkwony, MP for Njoro.  Mr Alex Anyolo had been sending threatening messages to the complainant & five other MPs with intent to extort,” read partially, statements from the DCI.

The detectives have said that he not only targeted the Njoro MP but he admitted having money received from another member of parliament. Police say that Anyalo admitted that he sends such messages purposefully to extort the legislators.

He was found with several items the officers believe could aid in the investigations.

“Several assorted Sim Cards including one that sent the messages, handsets & different ID cards recovered. Further investigations ongoing,” DCI said.
