Man to appear in court over murder of policewoman

A prime suspect in the murder of a police officer attached to Parliament has been arrested.

The police said the suspect in the killing of Hellen Kwamboka (pictured) will today take plea over the murder. This was after he was arrested in Suam, Mt Elgon, while reportedly fleeing to Uganda.

The police traced the 38-year-old after reports indicated he had been in contact with a relative.

Preliminary investigations have since placed the man at the scene of crime on the day the body of Kwamboka was discovered.

The suspect later discarded a mobile phone he was using then and bought a new one which he kept using for days before he was arrested.

He was brought to Nairobi at the weekend ahead of his arraignment.

Buru Buru Head of Directorate of Criminal Investigations Adan Guyo said another suspect who had been detained over the incident had been released because he was found to be innocent.

Last moments

The suspect arrested in Suam was a boyfriend of the murdered policewoman and was seen in her house in Umoja on May 23 when she is believed to have been killed.

He also called Kwamboka’s parents who stay in Kisii to inform them he had parted ways with her.

Mr Guyo said they are yet to establish the motive for murder.

Kwamboka’s body was found lying on her bed with deep cuts in the forehead and strangulation marks on her neck.

The woman last reported to work on May 23 and left for home at around 7pm. Police said that was the last time she was seen in public.
