The court has ordered two brothers said to have jointly assaulted their father leading to his death detained for 10 days to facilitate further investigations.

Vincent Amunze and Arthur Luvonga are said to have assaulted their father Hezron Mutonyi on May 13 at their Lukhokho village in Kakamega North District.

Detective Jonathan Kiplangat, in a sworn affidavit, said two inflicted serious wounds on their father who succumbed while undergoing treatment at Kakamega County General hospital.

"It is for the interests of justice that the two be remanded at Kabras Police Station to facilitate further investigations. They are yet to undergo a mandatory mental assessment test to establish if they are stable to stand trial," said Mr Kiplangat.

He said they are yet to record statements from the intended witnesses as well as conduct a post-mortem examination on the body to ascertain the actual cause of death.

The two were arrested on May 25.

The officer said the two would be charged with murder once investigations are complete.

Kakamega Resident Magistrate Noelyne Akee ordered the two to be remanded for 10 days to facilitate the probe.

The case will be mentioned on June 7 for further directions.
