Pauline Wangari may have fought with her killer, court told

Three suspects in the murder of Murang’a Prison warden will remain in police custody for 14 days.

Joseph Ochieng, Rodgers Namukoro and Mary Amollo Olisa were ordered by Murang’a Resident Magistrate Sheila Nyaga to be detained at Murang’a Police Station.

Murang’a East DCI officer Phoebe Okomo said the three are persons of interest and are required to assist in the investigations into the murder of Pauline Wangari (pictured).

The three were arrested in Kericho while on their way to Kendu Bay.

“The police also seek to be allowed to conduct a search in the suspects' homes as some property was stolen from Wangari's house,” said Okomo.

The case will be mentioned on May 31.

An officer conversant with investigations revealed Ochieng’ spent the night with Wangari and they might have picked a quarrel.

The two met on social media, where Ochieng', a musician, organised and visited the prison warden.

“She may have died after they differed in the night and he stabbed her severally,” revealed the officer.

Namukoro and Ochieng’ are musicians who have produced music albums in their names.

Namukoro told the court Ochieng', who stays in his house, had a television set he was selling, whose source was unknown.

Omollo objected to being detained for 14 days, but said he had no issues with a home search.

In the same court, Peterson Mwaura Njiru who was arrested in connection with the murder was released after the prosecution withdrew an application to detain him.

Njiru was released from custody but ordered to report at Murang’a DCI office as required.
