Chief arrested over Sh7, 700 bribe

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption (EACC) in Kisumu have detained a local Chief for allegedly receiving a Sh7, 700 bribe.

The Chief from Kisumu West, who has not been produced in court is said to have demanded for the bribe to sign a document that a family had presented to her in a succession matter.

The family had been issued with the document by the lands department.

According to the complainant, the administrator demanded Sh2, 200 to complete the form for the victim and another additional Sh5, 500 to write a letter of confirmation.

On Wednesday, EACC sleuths acting on a tip off, tracked the suspect to her home and arrested her while receiving the bribe.

EACC Nyanza region director Ignatius Wekesa confirmed the arrest and said that she will be arraigned in court.

“We  received a complaint from a resident of the said location who claimed  the administrator had refused to sign a form  which had been issued by  the lands department until she is given bribe to write a confirmation letter to help the complainant’s family to process a land transfer ‘’ said Wekesa.

The detective noted that the suspect will be arraigned in court to face charges of bribery.
