Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko came under fire yesterday after pictures of a lion erected in the city centre started doing rounds on social media.
The lion statue that was erected on University way roundabout brought mixed reactions to Kenyans who couldn’t stop talking.
The statue which some Kenyans have described as a raw deal has become the laughing stalk in town with netizens claiming it looks like a character out of a television cartoon series.
Others have come out to criticize the way it was sculpted and that it didn’t deserve to be placed in the city centre.
Kenyans on twitter who are always on high alert on trending issues were also not left behind as they came out to ridicule the statue and asking Governor Sonko what they did to deserve the embarrassment as Nairobi residents.
Nairobi City County government splashed over Sh140 million on visits by USA President Barack Obama and Catholic Pope Francis to Kenya in 2015 for beautification projects.
Under former governor Evans Kidero’s leadership, City Hall sunk Sh135, 807, 879 on the two world leaders visit and incurred an additional Sh5 million in running a “Beautification Account”.
