Parents yesterday morning protested at the transfer of the Icuga Primary School headteacher in Mathira constituency.

The demonstrations started early in the morning after parents took pupils to school and found that Christopher Wachira had been moved to another school.

Mr Wachira had headed the school for only two terms and, according to the parents, he had improved performance and structures.

Peter Muriithi, a member of the school's board of management, said the transfer was unfair and that parents deserved answers.

“We will not close the school because when Wachira came, we did not know if he was good or not. We will, however, have a sit down with parents and discuss the issue,” said Mr Muriithi.

Grace Muraguri, a parent, claimed the school was being sabotaged by a person she declined to name.

“The head teacher has brought this school from far. He improved the performance from number 38 out of 38 to position 15 in Mathira,” she said.

The parents said it was unfair that every time a performing teacher was brought to the school, he or she was immediately transferred.

Ms Muraguri claimed that the school did not get young, vibrant and hardworking teachers, saying it only got old, bored and under-performing teachers.
