3 arrested over Sh2.4m fraud

Detectives in Mombasa are holding three employees of Milly Glass Company over the theft of Sh2.4 million.

Mombasa urban Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss Jacob Kanake, who is leading the investigations, told The Standard yesterday that the three are an accountant and two watchmen.

He said the three were arrested on Monday and were helping police with investigations.

The money is said to have been stolen on December 24, but the matter was reported to the police a week later raising unanswered questions.

The CCTV equipment were also tampered with before the money was stolen according to Mr Kanake.

"These people are taking us in circles. First, they said Sh660,000 was missing but they have raised the figure to Sh2.4million," said Mr Kanake referring to the company officials.

He said what shocked the investigators was the accountant's admission that he was not aware of the total amount of money in the box, yet he was in charge of the safebox.
