Athletics: APA boost Ndakaini 21km race

The 15th Ndakaini Half Marathon got a boost yesterday after APA Life Assurance injected Sh250,000 sponsorship ahead of the race in Gatanga, Murang’a County, next weekend.

Organisers are targeting to register over 4,000 participants for the half marathon that is always graced by two-time world marathon champion Abel Kirui and four-time Boston Marathon winner Catherine Ndereba.

Patrick Kipng’eno will be out to strike a third win at the Ndakaini Half Marathon.

In 2017, Patrick Kipng’eno and Debra Meringor won the Sh300,000 prize.

Registration fee is Sh1,500 for elite and Sh1,000 for amateur athletes.

Speaking during the presentation, APA Life Assurance CEO Catherine Karimi said they will help tap and develop talents as well as supporting the initiative that aims at conserving the environment.

“We believe sport is a wonderful way to empower communities. APA’s part in this event will raise critical funds for conservation, community development and education programs for this region in Kenya,” said Karimi.

The race, which has over the years been held in September, has been to October.
