State allays fears over Sh21b wind project in Lamu

Lamu County Commisioner Joseph Kanyiri

Residents have been cautioned against politicising the compensation and resettlement of people who will be affected by a Sh21 billion wind power project in Mpeketoni.

Speaking during a public baraza at Kihongwe Mjini village yesterday, Lamu County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri assured residents that the national and county governments were working with the investor for the best interests of the farmers who will pave the way for the project, adding that nobody would be victimised during the process.

Mr Kanyri dismissed reports circulating on social media that the investor was acquiring land illegally without involving the locals through proper compensation mechanism.

"The Government is monitoring every move and all the affected persons will be considered," he said.
