Fuel costs drop in new electricity tariffs

The fuel component in the electricity bill has gone down by 40 per cent following implementation of new electricity tariffs.

The Energy Regulatory Commission yesterday gazetted the new rates for the Fuel Cost Charge, where consumers will now pay Sh2.50 per unit of electricity consumed this month compared to Sh4.60 last month.

Also on the decline is the foreign exchange adjustment, going down 95 per cent to five cents in August from Sh1.22 in July.

The inflation adjustment, which is revised every six months, will be charged at five cents from 52 cents gazetted in July. The new charge will be in place until December.
