A businessman was shot dead by gunmen inside his shop in Kitui town on Monday. Boniface Kitoo, 35, was killed by three gangsters at about 7.30pm.

A boda boda operator was also shot and seriously injured outside the shop in Majengo estate by the fleeing gang.

Kitui County Police Commander Antony Kamitu said the trader was shot in the shoulder and the bullet pierced through his chest.

He said the gunmen stole an unknown amount of money, adding that the injured boda boda rider would be questioned about the incident.

He also said the police had collected two spent cartridges and one bullet from the scene, and that a manhunt for the gangsters had been launched.
