In-form Mutwasi golfer to beat at Nakuru Club tomorrow

Handicap 26 Margaret Mutwasi will be the star attraction as over 150 players head to Nakuru Golf Club tomorrow for the Standard County Golf Classics.

Mutwasi, has won three successive tournaments (Kenya Power and Lighting Company, John Walker Series and Club Night) at the venue to help her drop her handicap from 36-26 in less than four weeks in her two years of playing golf.

Despite skipping training for the last two weeks due to work commitment, Mutwasi insists she is in with a shout.

“I’m ready to give my competitors anxious moments in the 18 hole-competition.  I believe when it is your day and you are in good spirits and a peace of mind, you can become a winner,” said Mutwasi.

Mutwasi will play alongside Titus Lusaka, C Otieno and R Kaloki and they are teeing off at 8.10am tomorrow.

The other top contenders are handicap 20 Paul Aweyo and long hitting duo of Paul Muhia and John Kamais, who are equally in top form.

Muhia, who tees off at 8.80am has been paired with Kamais, M. Mussaji and another long hitter Luther Kamau.

Muhia, also the green keeper, said the course was in good shape save for two holes (11 and 14) that had cracks but have been repaired and should be ready for other tournaments in three weeks.

“These two holes had some problems before, but we have fixed them as we have planted grass on them and should be ready for forthcoming tournaments. However, they’ll not hamper this one (Standard Golf),” Muhia told Standard Sports.

The staff prize will be a competition between Standard Group Acting CEO Orlando Lyomu, Head of Human Resources Nicholas Siwatom and Commercial Manager Salim Bwika.
