Governor Kiraitu Murungi

Governor Kiraitu Murungi has appointed a 70-member advisory group composed of eminent Meru personalities to offer him guidance in steering the devolved unit.

The veteran politician has drawn widely from those seen as close allies as well as political foes such as those close to his predecessor and Cabinet nominee Peter Munya.

All MPs and sitting county executive committee members (CECMs) are ex-officio members of the council, which shall elect an executive committee comprising not more than 11 members.

Announcing the formation of the council, Mr Kiraitu said it would involve the intelligensia and professionals in the development of Meru County, as he had promised during his campaigns.

The governor will be the patron of the council while former civil service head Francis Muthaura will be chairman and will be assisted by Esther Ngaine.

Others are Munya, the former Public Service Commission head and Cabinet nominee Margaret Kobia, outgoing Lands Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi, Permanent Secretary Peter Kaberia, Rev Sam Kobia, former permanent secretaries Erastus Mwongera, Mutea Iringo, and Gerishon Ikiara.

Other members include Kenya National Commission on Human Rights chairperson Kagwiria Mbogori, politicians Florence Kajuju, Elizabeth Kailemia, Shadrack Mwiti, Mwenda Makathimo, Kinoti Gatobu, Ntoitha M’Mithiaru, Joseph Eruaki, and Kilemi Mwiria.
