Heavy rains affect transportation of ballot papers for tallying in Tiaty

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials and police officers in Tiaty were forced to camp by River Nginyany on Wednesday after it burst its banks following heavy downpour in the region.

This led to delays of deliverance of votes to Tiaty sub county tallying station at Chemolingot.

One ambulance from Baringo County government was deployed to help in transporting election materials across River Nginyany.

Residents also played a critical role in guiding the drivers towards shallow ends of the river.             

Among the affected polling stations are Mwariki Primary School, Naleka, Nakoko, Akiriamit, cheparuas, Toplen, Sitot, Natan, Naudo, Nasorot Akwichatis, Riongo, Lotita, Makany, Orus, Kokwototo, siria, Amaya area which has five stations, Kadingding, Chemeril and entire division of Akoret.

Police officers from the area were forced to use their own means to transport ballot papers and boxes to various polling stations as vehicles hired for use couldn't cross the river.

Out of 143 polling stations only 29 had, by 8am, transported their results to Chemolingot high school for tallying.
