National Super Alliance principal Musalia Mudavadi has faulted President Uhuru Kenyatta for not attending the presidential candidates' live TV debate on Monday.

The event, held at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, was attended by Ekuru Aukot, Michael Wainaina and Japheth Kaluyu, who participated in the first phase of the debate at 5.30pm.

Uhuru, who was scheduled to face Raila Odinga at 8pm, never showed up. "It is of great concern that the President of Kenya declined to participate in a live broadcast debate watched by 9.6 million viewers," he said.

"It is an even greater concern when he attempts to justify the no-show as a non-issue."
