An agent for a property worth Sh250 million under dispute has been remanded for skipping trial in a case where he is accused of assault.

Ralph Edward Nzui was arrested in Nairobi last Friday and presented before Resident Magistrate Linus Kassan, who remanded him for 10 days.

On October 24, 2016, Mr Nzui and Jacob Muinde Kilele were charged in a Mavoko court in Machakos County with violently robbing Maviji Dhaji Gajipara of Shamji Kalyan Pindoria Ltd.

But Nzui skipped a subsequent hearing on November 4, 2016, and a warrant of arrest was issued on November 11, 2016.

COURT PAPERS

According to court papers, Nzui is an agent of Moonglow Ltd associated with former National Social Security Fund chairman Samuel Muinde.

The firm is claiming 25 acres situated in Mavoko. Shamji Kalyan Pindoria Ltd is also claiming ownership.

Both firms have produced title deeds, with Shamji's dated September 1, 2011, and Moonglow's reading May 1, 1994.

Nzui's lawyers moved to the High Court in Machakos seeking intervention for his release.

In April, the Director of Public Prosecutions directed the police to drop a robbery with violence case against Nzui and substitute it with assault.
