Court dismisses case seeking to block presidential debates

High Court Judge John Mativo has dismissed Abduba Dida’s bid to stop July 10 Presidential Debates.

Dida, who is Alliance for Real Change party presidential candidate had filed a case citing discrimination by the  organizing committee.

According to Dida, the format that was settled on by the committee had treated him as a ‘second class citizen’.

Judge Mativo however said Dida’s claims were void.

“The presidential debates will continue as planned,” ruled Judge Mativo.

Dida’s Lawyer Jason Ondabo stated that they will appeal the ruling.

“The format used in segmenting some candidates to be in group A while others in group B was not submitted to us,” said Ondabo.

Lawyer Jessy Oduor however said Dida’s appeal had no merit as the organisers of the debates were a private entity who had been given full liberty to form their own guidelines.
