AFC, Gor, Tusker and Sofapaka in uncompromising mood in knockout competition

Bigwigs were in uncompromising mood during the GOtv Shield Cup round of 64 at the weekend, with AFC Leopards notching the highest winning margin in their 15-1 annihilation of little-known Dero FC of Kisumu.

Vincent Oburu accounted for the lion’s share of Ingwe’s cricket score after bulging the net five times as Dero, who struck through Edgar Owino, offered little-resistance in the lop-sided match.

Whyvonne Isuza added three goals while other scorers were Jackson Juma, Robinson Kamura, Mussa Mudde and Mercelus Ingotsi.

Like Leopards, the resurgent Sofapaka had a walk in the park, dismissing Division Two side Silver Bullets 9-1.

Ugandan Umalu Kasumba, who joined Batoto Ba Mungu from Sports Club Villa scored four goals while others who were on target include Rodgers Aloro, Ali Feni, Meshack Karani and Hansel Ochieng’.

There was more goal glut as SportPesa Premier League debutants Nakumatt strolled to an 8-2 win over Bigot.

Gor Mahia also progressed to the next stage following a 3-1victory over provincial league side Nairobi Water.

K’Ogalo took full advantage of Nairobi Water’s inexperience to romp into the Round of 32, thanks to goals by Meddie Kagere, George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo and Wellington Ochieng’.

Defending champions Tusker lived up to their billing by stopping hosts SS Assad 5-0 at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa.

Sam Timbe’s men made a statement of intent from the word go, with new signing Paul Odhiambo grabbing a brace as Clifford Alwanga, Noah Wafula and Micheal Khamati struck a goal each.

Last year’s losing finalists Ulinzi Stars shook off stubborn Division Two side Wajiji with a 1-0 win via an Enosh Ochieng goal.
