Former Kenya Volleyball Federation League men’s champions General Service Unit and Co-operative Bank will be hoping to continue their unbeaten run when the third leg of the 2017 season serves off at Eldoret Polytechnic today.

GSU will be out for revenge against Kenya Defence Forces following the league leaders’ 3-0 defeat in last month’s Nairobi Water Chairman’s Cup quarter-finals.

“They (KDF) beat us at the Ndakaini tournament, but tournament and league are totally different competitions.

It will not be an easy match, but being the Amaco tournament champions we know what we want in Eldoret,” said Kimeli, whose side will represent Kenya in next month’s Genocide tournament in Rwanda.

GSU will, however, have to do without the services of their new signings Simon Kipkorir (KDF) and Abiud Kipkirui Chirchir (UNIK, Rwanda).

The pair is expected to make their debut in the fourth leg in Kilifi.

Just like Kimeli, Co-operative captain Martin Kimondo is braced for a difficult encounter against third placed Kenya Ports Authority.

However, the former Kenyan international has challenged his team-mates to give him a perfect retirement send-off by booking an early play-offs slot.

“Our ultimate target is to qualify for the play-offs as early as possible. But that will depend on results against teams like KPA,” said Kimondo.

“This might be my last year in competitive volleyball and I would wish to retire with good performance.”

Champions Kenya Prisons face off with their Mombasa counterparts in a repeat of last month’s Nairobi Water Chairman’s Cup where Gideon Chenje’s side prevailed.

In the women’s category, champions Kenya Pipeline will be looking to bounce back against Nairobi Water as their rivals Prisons Kenya battle with league leaders Kenya Commercial Bank.
