Traffic on the busy Embu-Mwea Road was paralysed for several hours after a speeding miraa vehicle hit and killed a boda boda rider.

The vehicle, which was transporting the commodity from Mbeere to Nairobi, was later intercepted at Murubari and set on fire by angry residents.

The vehicle's two occupants fled the scene. The lone rider, who was headed towards Kimbimbi market, died on the spot.

Following the 9am incident, boda boda operators from the nearby Ngurubani Town and Kimbimbi Market barricaded the road and pelted motorists with stones.

The protestors also lit fires on the road.
