Kenyan journalists detained in Zanzibar

Three Kenyan journalists were Thursday detained before being charged Sh10,000 each in Zanzibar for not having visas.

This is despite the document not being an entry requirement to any of the East African Community states. Maxwel Agwanda (Standard Group), Kenfrey Kiberenge (Nation) and Patrick Vidija (Radio Africa) were detained at Zanzibar's Sheikh Abeidi Karume Airport from 9am to 3pm.

The authorities threatened to deport them, saying it is a requirement to pay the amount for seminars and trainings.
