The county assembly has started the process of impeaching the Education, Youth and Social Development executive.

MCAs yesterday unanimously agreed to remove Salma Muhiddin following a report by the general oversight committee that recommended her dismissal for failing to implement development projects worth more than Sh1.2 billion in the past three years.

County assembly speaker, Jimmy Kahindi, said he has already received a notice of a motion seeking to impeach the officer.

The report is expected to be tabled before the assembly today.

The report recommending the removal of Ms Muhiddin was tabled on Tuesday by Deputy Speaker Ted Mwambire.

Watamu Ward MCA Ibrahim Matumbo said MCAs would crack the whip on under-performing county government officials.

The assembly has also summoned County Secretary Owen Baya, among other senior county government officials, to explain their roles in implementation of development projects.

Also summoned are former Education chief officer Adan Mohamed and his successor Mr Emmanuel Katana Joseph.

Muhiddin will be given a chance to defend herself before the MCAs.
