Recruitment of a new chairman of the anti-graft body hangs in the balance following an urgent petition to stop the process.

Dr Wilfrida Itolondo, a lecturer at Kenyatta University, filed an application claiming that the Public Service Commission (PSC) treated her unfairly by failing to shortlist her for the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) job despite satisfying all the conditions set out.

“The PSC has failed to disclose to me reasons why they rejected my application even when I met all the minimum requirements. I deserve to be given opportunity to present my capabilities before the interviewing panel just like the other candidates,” said the lecturer.

CORRUPTION CARTELS

Itolondo claimed she was being denied the opportunity because she had exposed alleged corruption cartels operating within the PSC, and who are allegedly close friends of the commission’s chairperson Prof Margaret Kobia.

She wants the court to stop the interviewing of six applicants shortlisted by PSC scheduled to commence on Friday, November 17 until her case is heard and determined.

The PSC on October 28 shortlisted retired Anglican Archbishop Eliud Wabukala, William Kirwa, Philemon Mwaisaka , Peter Ondieki, Rose Osoro and Erastus Rweria to battle it out for the EACC top job.

The position became vacant following the resignation of Philip Kinisu in August.
