Egerton University sets up website for livestock farming

Livestock farmers can now learn best animal husbandry practices online, thanks to a new research blog launched by the department of animal science at Egerton University.

Chairman of the department Perminus Migwi says the site dubbed Research Gate will play a leading role in disseminating latest research information on livestock management in the country to farmers and other stakeholders.

"This is not only an academic affair but a general data bank on livestock management research materials that can be accessed by any interested party," Prof Migwi told The Standard yesterday.

Migwi said the information contained on the site will greatly help in livestock production and also tackle emerging challenges in keeping of livestock and how to overcome them.

Livestock farmers can also interact with animal science experts in finding solutionS to the challenges they face in their farms.

The site that has already uploaded 58 publications from 100 authors, also targets animal science students in a bid to put them in a better position to interact with their tutors by accessing their publications, said the don.

"We think that on-line publishing is going to be the next attraction in academic publishing," Migwi said.
