Wiper retreats to Naivasha this week to discuss party polls

The Wiper Democratic Movement Party will have a two-day retreat in Naivasha this week to align its constitution to the national one and discuss party elections.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka said the retreat scheduled for Friday and Saturday is expected to strengthen the party by giving the leaders an opportunity to bond and give clear direction on the party's future commitments.

"I have consulted with party members and they believe that you have been the glue holding this party together and feel strongly that you should really consider continuing," Kalonzo said while asking Kitui Senator David Musila to defend the chairmanship of the party during the upcoming elections.

Kalonzo announced that the party will also propose amendments to its constitution to accommodate the summit which will be constituted by governors among other members.

He spoke Sunday in Migwani during a fundraiser to complete Bethel House of Prayer led by Patron Rev Beatrice Musila, wife to Musila.

On matters digital, the Wiper leader said citizens have a right to information and thus the blackout being experienced is unfair and unconstitutional.

He said the freedom of the media is paramount to any developing nation and the blackout is greatly affecting the Kenyan economy.

"Due to this media blackout being experienced in the country, the global rating of media freedom in the country has dropped from number 90 to 100" said Kalonzo

On matters devolution, the Wiper leader said there will be teething problems and some challenges but these should not be used to fight governors and Members of the County Assembly, but rather be a spring board to strengthen the devolved units.

Mwingi Central MP Joe Mutambu said the digital migration is due in July and so media houses should be allowed to utilise the remaining period to prepare.
