Narok Governor Samuel Tunai dares MPs to quit

Narok Governor Samuel Tunai has dared his opponents to resign and seek a fresh mandate from the electorate if they feel that the Jubilee administration has failed to address the leadership row in the region.

Mr Tunai accused five legislators, led by Senator Stephen Ntutu, of dishonesty and attempting to wreck the Jubilee coalition from within.

“It is a high time these leaders make a decision and quit. It does not make sense for them to set the house they are in on fire,” he said.

First time

This is the first time the governor is taking the legislators head-on over their discontent with his administration.

Speaking on Saturday at Oloolaimutia in Narok West constituency, Tunai said he would continue implementing the County Integrated Development Plan.

“The legislators’ actions lately have portrayed the county in bad light. The image that the tourists who usually visit our county have is that of a burning county,” said Tunai while reassuring investors that all was well in the county.

The governor was accompanied by his deputy Evalyn Aruasa, Narok East MP Ken Kiloku, County Woman Representative Soipan Kudate and 15 MCAs led by Majority Leader Stephen Kudate.

He said he would continue serving the people of Narok irrespective of their political affiliation.

Tunai said all tribes in the county would be treated fairly.

He appealed to county residents to shun divisive politics meant to create rifts in the cosmopolitan county.

Ms Aruasa cautioned the leaders against disrespecting President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

County peaceful

She added that the county was peaceful and appealed to all leaders to desist from making statements that could ignite tribal animosity.

Mrs Kudate said the anti-Tunai camp had lost direction and were now inciting area residents instead of serving them.

Kiloku dismissed CORD leader Raila Odinga for attempting to reap from the leadership crisis in Narok, terming him as an opportunist.

“It is unfortunate that the former prime minister thinks that he can win the support of Narok residents through funerals. The locals have confidence in the governor and Jubilee administration. They are not quitting to join CORD,” said Kiloku.
