Nakuru, Kenya: The National Authority for Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (Nacada) will launch ‘mulika mlevi’ , a campaign aimed at stamping out alcohol abuse.

At the same time, the organisation will form a partnership with churches in the fight against drug abuse.

Nacada chairman John Mututho said the organisation will join hands with the religious groups to address the problem of alcoholism especially among the youth.

The campaign, he said, will among other issues target manufacturers of illegal brews, which have ruined lives of youths.

Mr Mututho said the fight against drunk driving would continue despite the suspension of Alcoblow by the court pending the hearing of a case challenging its use.

“We will not relent on curbing drunk driving. We have campaigns against drunk driving in other countries and some of this gadgets are being used in those countries,” he said.

Mututho said Nacada had formed partnerships with some county governments in Central Kenya in a bid to rid the region of alcoholism.

“We have already held discussions with the Governors of Kiambu and Murang’a and other counties will come on board in the campaign,” Mututho said. He said an aggressive rehabilitation programme for youths suffering from alcohol and drugs abuse will be launched soon.

Addressing the Presbyterian Church Men Fellowship Conference in Nakuru, the Nacada boss  challenged churches to join  hands with his team to identify those to benefit from the  rehabilitation programme.
