Former Chief Justice Evan Gicheru has been found alive after he went missing while on holiday at the Aberdare Country Club, Nyeri County.

Police and family say he went missing Thursday evening but a search that was mounted overnight up to Friday morning found him in a thicket in the club.

A vehicle was later dispatched to go and pick him. He had been there with his wife and family when he went missing and officials say he is unwell.

Police and the family say the former CJ was diabetic and he fell in a thicket as he wandered in there and slept. He has been evacuated and taken to hospital.

Nyeri head of police operations Ephantus Kiura said justice Gicheru is ok with him.

“He is with me here and we are making arrangements to take him to hospital for check ups. He ok,” said Kiura.

Nyeri County Commissioner Michael Mwangi said they took medics to the site to attend to the former CJ before they could evacuate him.

Gicheru left office in 2011 in changes that saw Justice Willy Mutunga take over.
