A secondary school teacher in Wajir County is nursing serious head injuries after a student viciously attacked him.

Furaha Secondary School principal Adan Kassim said the teacher was clobbered with an iron rod several times on the head after he confiscated a mobile phone from the Form Three student during an end of year examination.

The teacher who was first taken to Wajir Distrit Hospital was flown to Nairobi’s Mater Hospital for treatment.

“The teacher found the student with the mobile phone in an exam room and confiscated it. Normally, when a student is found with a phone, the gadgets are kept until the student is through with school and this appeared to have provoked him,” he told The Standard.

Kassim said the student attacked the teacher from behind and struck him with a metal bar. The matter was reported to Wajir Police Station but no arrests have yet been made.
