By Mutwiri Mutuota

Kenya Rugby Football Union (KRFU) has a budget of Sh80m for the successful hosting of the International Rugby Board (IRB) Junior World Cup Trophy scheduled to run from April 21 to May 3.

Speaking to the press during the launch of the world event that will feature eight teams, the Local Organising Committee (LOC) chairman, Peter Nduati, said that Sh35m has so far been raised and exuded confidence of realising the deficit.

"We are sure of showcasing our ability to host the event for the first time in Africa and to meet our budget through Kenyan sponsors," Nduati said.

At the same time, the event received a roaring seal of approval from the world body who promptly injected £60,000 (Sh6.7m) into the development of the local game.

"We intend the Junior Trophy to leave a lasting legacy in the growth of the game here in Kenya.

We are impressed with the plans KRFU have in the establishment of Age Grade projects and preparations for hosting the tournament," IRB Tournament Director, Phillipe Bourdaris disclosed. The French national observed, "Chile, who hosted the event last year, are still benefiting in the development of the game but their gains cannot match what KRFU have planned if executed well."

A total of £10,000 (Sh1.13m) will be used to upgrade the playing surface of tournament venues., RFUEA and Impala grounds.
