Fuel station faces demolition

The assembly has recommended the immediate demolition of a controversial petrol station constructed on a wetland at Konate junction along the Nyamira-Kebirigo road.

The MCAs termed the petrol station, which has been constructed near a spring that serves over 600 people, as a disaster in waiting.

Led by Robinson Mocheche, the MCAs accused the proprietor, Peter Bogonko, of defying a court order and other technical advice from the National Environment Management Authority (Nema).

Mr Mocheche said the site where the petrol station sits had been grabbed from the county government.

He said he was ready to sacrifice his life in the course of making sure the project, which is a threat to the lives of the area residents, stops.

Bogichora Ward Representative Beautah Omanga raised concern over the rampant grabbing of public land in the county particularly those earmarked for various government projects.

He named the site where the disputed petrol station stands and another parcel of land at Kiambere market as some of the many public lands, which have been grabbed and told the county government to tame the menace.
