KENYA: A Nairobi court has allowed the prosecution to consolidate two cases in which three suspects are accused of stripping and sexually abusing a woman last year in Githurai, Nairobi.

Edward Gitau was charged before a Milimani court on Tuesday in connection with the incident that occurred in a Githurai-bound bus in December last year. However, he denied the charge. Gitau was accused of sexually assaulting a woman on September 19, 2014 at Millenium Petrol Station in Githurai 44, jointly with others who were before court. He was also charged with robbing the victim items amounting to Sh41,700.

The prosecution told the court it was seeking to consolidate the case with an earlier one in which two other suspects were charged in relation to the incident.

The other two, Nicholas Mwangi and Meshack Mwangi, are still in custody after they also denied the charges before Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Lucy Mbugua.

Prosecutor Eddie Kaddebe Wednesday made an application to have the two matters consolidated but it was opposed by the defence, claiming the consolidation would delay the case. The application was allowed and the three suspects are expected to take plea again.
