Nyamira Governor John Nyangarama roots for say in security

Nyamira Governor John Nyangarama wants county governments to play greater role in provision of security.

County Commissioner Josephine Onunga said security in the county has been enhanced over this Christmas season.

Onunga said no part of the country is safe from acts of terror and urged residents to be vigil and ensure Nyumba Kumi initiative works. She said police officers were on high alert during the season.

There was enhanced security at Nyamira’s Uhuru Gardens, during Jamhuri day celebrations as police officers for the first time screened residents before admission to the venue due to recent threats from terrorists.

Nyangarama (pictured) noted terrorism has threatened the sovereignty of the nation and would turn freedoms that the nation’s forefathers fought for to an illusion.

“The National Government, in accordance with Section 54 (6) of The County Government Act should engage our leadership through a formalised and consultative forums to enable the two interdependent levels of government to share security briefs regularly and consistently,” said Nyagarama.

Nyagarama said it would take a collective effort to guarantee nation’s security.

“Security cannot be left to the national government alone. It will take cooperation, collaboration and more importantly consultation between governments,” he added.

He said Nyamira was ready to provide administrative support and resources needed to enhance national security.
