Ugandan ace Ian Rukunya emerged the overall winner of the 15th edition of the Ken Gen Nakuru International Squash Championships that ended at Rift Valley Sports Club yesterday.

Rukunya walloped experienced Kenyan player Bruce Jusa 3-0 (11-7, 11-6 and 11-8) in a tough final match.

“It has been my pleasure to have won this tournament after some rigorous training in Kampala. It did not come on a silver platter and I’m ready to defend it next time,” Rukunya told Feverpitch after he received his Sh35,000 prize money from the tournament coordinator Enos Muguku.

Jusa, who dismissed James Dalidi 3-1 in the semifinals went home richer with Sh24,000.

On his part, Rukunya who plays for Kampala Squash Club had dispatched Billy Jusa 3-0 in the other semi final match.

In his address to participants, Ken Gen chairman Joshua Choge promised to come next year in a big way besides refurbishing the squash courts at the club. “We’ll be here for another tournament next season and we must refurbish the squash courts.”
