Stima shock AFC, Chemelil crush Ulinzi while Bandari dim City Stars in Mombasa

Western Stima picked their third win against AFC Leopards after registering a 1-0 victory in yesterday’s Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match at Nyayo Stadium.

Leopards survived two early scares inside the first five minutes as Western Stima utilised the wings to raid their opponents. In the sixth minute, Wesley Kemboi put Stima ahead after tapping in  the opener. Lucas Indeche spilled the ball allowing Kemboi to score.

Shocked by the early goal, Leopards nearly hit back in the tenth minute with Kepha Aswani making a long range attempt but he was off the mark.

Leopards had the first corner in the 20th minute as they looked to be in charge of the proceedings.

Andrew Tololwa’s effort in the 37th minute was the closest that Leopards came in the remaining part of the first half.

Leopards made a first half substitution bringing on Bernard Mangoli for Mousa Sissoko in an attempt to stabilise the midfield but it didn’t make a big difference as both teams went to the break with Stima still ahead.

Leopards started strongly in second half, and forced a 55th minute corner which Gabriel Andika cleared from his line.

Leopards continued piling pressure on their opponents and Andrew Tololwa had his goal bound shot blocked.

The kind of officiating that has been raising eyebrows saw Stima’s effort that would have been a second goal disallowed for an offside. After that, both teams had near misses infront of goal but it is Western Stima who will be the happier side after pipping their opponents for the third time this season.

In Chemelil, the home team bounced back to its winning form after silencing Ulinzi Stars 1-0 to at Chemelil Sports Complex.

Chemelil Sugar turned the tide on Ulinzi Stars mid-way during the first half with Mustafa Adebayo and Jared Obwoge missing two valuable scoring chances with only the army custodian James Saruni to beat.

Chemelil Sugar piled pressure on Ulinzi and in the 88th minute, Hillary Echesa volleyed the ball to Obwoge who nailed the all-important goal to give the home side a win.

In Mombasa, City Stars picked up three crucial points after they upset Bandari 3-1 in a KPL match at the Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa. They opened the score sheet in the 16th minute through Omar Borafya. City Star’s Jimmy Bageya equalised in the 42nd minute.

Benson Iregi doubled for Stars before Maloba putting issue beyond doubt when he connected Iregi’s pass in closing minutes for the third goal.

Elsewhere, Kakamega Homeboyz settled for a 1-1 draw with Ushuru FC.
