Kenya rise in Fifa ranking

Kenya has once again broken into top 100 in the latest Fifa ranking released yesterday. The country is now ranked 99, moving up two places compared to January’s ranking.

The improvement comes despite Harambee Stars being inactive in the last two months, having last played during the regional Council for East and Central Football Association (Cecafa) held in Ethiopia last year.

In Africa, Kenya is placed at position 24 behind Botswana (98) and ahead of Liberia (101). In the region, Stars are third behind Rwanda and Uganda who are the highest ranked countries in East and Central Africa.

Harambee Stars will be in action in March when they resume their 2017 Africa Cup of matches qualifiers.

The team will take on Guinea Bissau on a home and away basis between March 23 and March 29.

Three-time African champions, Nigeria have risen three places in the latest rankings released by world football-governing body, Fifa.

The Super Eagles amassed 2.5 ranking points to garner a total of 542.5 points for the month of January.

Nigeria is now ranked 12th in Africa and 63rd in the world.

Elsewhere, Bidco United lost 2-0 to Wazito on the fourth day of the ongoing Kenya Institute of Soccer Education (KISE) tournament at Goan Institute.
Edwin Ombasa and Malvin Mukalia scored a goal each for the University side who picked their third straight win.
Earlier, they had edged out Savannah and Kahawa Baracks by identical 1-0 wins.
Other teams that are taking part in the event are Mathare United, Posta Rangers, Nakumatt and Kariobangi Sharks.
