EPL quartet Arsenal, Chelsea, Utd and City all committed to making a donation to the refugee crisis

Premier League clubs have agreed to make a huge donation to the refugee crisis.

The four clubs - Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United - have all signed up to donate €1 from every ticket sold in their first Champions League game.

It is understood the agreement has already been put in place and English teams in the Champions League were among the first clubs to act, while the Premier League's Europa League contingent have also pledged to donate from ticket sales.

It is a direct response from English clubs to ease the refugee crisis as other European teams have also donated cash.

Portugese club Porto and German side Schalke have also followed suit as they also look to support the refugee crisis.

The proposal was put forward on behalf of the English clubs by Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis and has been accepted by Karl-Heinze Rummenigge, chairman of the European Club Association.

Arsenal have already donated nearly £400,000 to help the Syrian refugee children since 2012 and contributed nearly £400,000 to date to help these vulnerable young people.

They have also donated kit and are currently supporting the construction of two pitches at Iraqi refugee camps.

Former Arsenal defender Martin Keown, an Arsenal Foundation ambassador, also opened a new Save the Children football pitch for Syrian children in the Za’atari refugee camp in Jordan.

Arsenal are also coordinating a number of initiatives to support Save the Children’s Child Refugee Crisis Appeal at Saturday’s home game with Stoke City.
