Charles Mugo was crowned the 2014 Quad/ATV Class Champion as the season-ending Kenya National Autocross Championship wound up at the East African Portland Cement racetrack in Athi River.

Twelve-year-old Ryan Bailey, who had sealed the Bambino Class championship title during last month’s penultimate race, wrapped up the season with victory after beating newcomer Satjot Saimbi and Yuv Matharu to the podium.

Asad Anwar, driving a Mitsubishi Lancer EVO7, emerged the winner in the 4WD Turbo class for rally cars when he eclipsed Adil Khan (Subaru) and Aakif Virani in the podium tussle.

Seventeen year-old Dilraj Chatthe won the Two-Wheel Drive Non Turbo class after clocking 7.54.00 minutes in the best of three heat runs.

Kisumu-based Dilraj, who hopes to join the Kenya National Rally Championship next year, did so in the absence of 2014 2WD Non Turbo Champion Tejas Hirani who skipped the weekend race meeting to register a maiden victory in the Formula Gulf 1000 series in Dubai at the weekend.

“Once I turn 18 next year, I will start racing in the KNRC and do selected events when time allows. When I complete my education, I plan to be competing in both the KNRC and ARC full championship as I will be able to commit more time and effort to motorsport,” said Dilraj.

Jadini Nzomo’s buggy had mechanical problems in the first heat, forcing him to pull out. But he finished second overall in the National Championships.
