Matiang'i should lift ban on prayer days

I welcome measures by Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to end exam cheating.

Last year, cases of exam irregularities were high as results of over 7,000 candidates were cancelled.

The exams were leaked through social media. Some teachers were also involved in answering questions for students.

Dr Matiang’i needs to work on how to end exam leaks through social media. Though it will be difficult to deal with, we need stern punishment for anyone found culpable.

The CS needs to caution teachers against engaging in exam leaks. During exams time, students and teachers are not supposed to have any contacts.

Some Kenya National Exam Council staff also engaged in exam irregularities by selling exam papers.

Although Matiang’i has tried to seal all possible loopholes, he failed by banning prayer days for candidates. The ban should be lifted.
