Nairobi, Kenya: When Muthoni Mary Mukami boarded a Kenya Airways plane on the night of April 8, 2008 to Mumbai, India, en route to China, she was filled with both feelings of hope and trepidation. On one hand she was happy because the trip, she thought, would open doors to better opportunities for her and her three children.
