NAIROBI: Four suspected thugs were Thursday morning shot dead by police at City Cabanas along Mombasa Road, Nairobi and two pistols with 24 bullets found on them.

Police say the gang was pursued from Wangige area in Kiambu County where they had committed a robbery and were headed for Athi River when the shooting happened at about 4 am.

They were using an X-Trail car at the time of the shooting by officers from Special Crimes Prevention Unit.

Head of the unit Noah Katumo said the gang had attacked a motorist in Wangige and robbed him of unknown amount of money. They also attacked at least five motorists in the same area and later drove off towards Kikuyu and later to Nairobi.

Details of the vehicle they were using had been circulated before it was spotted on a security camera along Mombasa Road.

“A team was dispatched to pursue them when the shooting happened near Cabanas. They were linked to a series of other incidents in Kikuyu area,” he said.

Katumo said they were linked to the murder of a businessman in Kikuyu last month during a robbery incident in his premises. The bodies were moved to the mortuary.
