CS Joseph Nkaisserry says police prepared for 2017 general elections

NAIROBI, KENYA: Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaisserry says police are prepared to handle next year's general election.
He said the security agencies will ensure the elections are free and fair.
"We have put in place the right security mechanisms to ensure that the elections are held in a free, fair and peaceful atmosphere," he said.
Nkaissery made the remarks when he held a meeting with the visiting US Congressmen and women to discuss Kenya-US cooperation in security matters.
The meeting, which took place at Harambee House, had the two discuss various bilateral issues notably security cooperation between Kenya and the US with emphasis on countering violent extremism and the war against terrorism.
Nkaisserry briefed the US team on the progress the Government has made towards countering terrorism as well as measures and strategies employed to counter violent extremism.
The CS further acknowledged the assistance the US Government has given to the Government of Kenya towards the war against terror.
"With support and cooperation from your country, the United States of America, we have made great strides in war against terror and thereby enhancing security which in turn has improved investment environment in the country," the CS stated.
Leading the US delegation was Congressman Vern Buchanan (a Republican from Florida's 16th congressional district) together with the US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec.?Other members of the delegation included Congressman David Price (a Democrat from North Carolina's 4th congressional district), Congresswoman Sophia Gwen Moore (a Democrat from Wisconsin's 4th congressional district), Congresswoman Lois Grimsrud Capps (a Democrat from California's 24th congressional district), Congresswoman Alice Dina Titus (a Democrat from Nevada's 1st congressional district) and Congressman Adrian Michael Smith (a Republican from Nebraska's 3rd congressional district).
The US team leader Congressman Buchanan commended the Kenyan Government for measures it had put in place to improve security adding that security and good governance were inter-related.
"No country in the world can have good governance in the absence of security. It is good to note that Kenya has taken measures to enhance security, which will in turn give impetus to the country's drive towards better governance," said Congressman Buchanan.
Present at the meeting were; Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Karanja Kibicho, Principal Administrative Secretary Joseph Irungu and other senior officials of the ministry.
