MURANG'A: Heavy rains caused destruction in Murang'a town after a night guard was killed when a perimeter wall collapsed on him.

The walls collapsed on the 55 year-old guard at an incident that occurred next to the residence of Kiharu MP Irungu Kang'ata following heavy downpours which was accompanied by thunderstorms.

Residents rushed to the scene for a rescue mission and managed to retrieve the body of the watchman.

Murang'a county government rescue unit was mobilized to the scene and guarded the scene before the body was moved to Murang'a district mortuary.

Murang'a East Deputy County Commissioner Mr Kefa Marube requested inspection to be carried out in all upcoming buildings to ensure they meet standards.

"We shall undertake a joint exercise with Murang'a County Government to inspect all buildings to enhance public safety," said Marube.
Murang'a town manager Jeremiah Kamau said the wall was overwhelmed by water following heavy down pours.
"Initial investigations has established that the wall was intact and collapsed after it was overwhelmed by rain waters," said Kamau.
By Thursday morning roads were littered with debris among other litter that was carried by the raging floods.
