Abide by Wada rules

Kenya is no longer at risk of being barred from participating in the August 2016 Olympics in Rio, Brazil. This is after the International Olympics Committee (IOC) said it had no intention of preventing the country from participating in the world event.

This comes against a backdrop of fears that Kenya would be barred after failing to meet standards and deadlines set by the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) to adopt legislation controlling the growing menace banned substances that enhance performance.

The absence of Kenya at an Olympics meet would rob the world event of glamour considering that in its own right, Kenya is a powerhouse in athletics and arguably, provides the yardstick by which other athletes measure their performance. And this is why the country must be told why, despite having been given ample time and having been placed on the monitoring list by Wada, Kenya would still be declared non-compliant with the world anti-doping code.

Who, between Cabinet Secretary for Sports Hassan Wario, Parliament and the State law office, failed to honour their side of the bargain? The fame that our hardworking athletes have brought this country should not be sullied by the indifference of a few bureaucrats with little regard for the country's well-being.
