Teachers have threatened to storm the examination council's offices over unpaid dues.

The teachers, through the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet), said they will force their way into the Kenya National Examination Council (Knec) offices countrywide tomorrow to push for payments for their members; who invigilated last year's Kenya Certificate of Primary Education and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams.

Speaking at a press briefing in Nairobi, Kuppet Secretary General Akelo Misori wondered why the teachers hd not been paid even after Treasury released Sh 1.2 billion to the council.

Knec had contracted close to 200,000 professionals to administer the exams, with a majority of them being teachers from both secondary and primary schools. "Knec has no excuse not to pay teachers. Treasury has released money to them. We will storm their offices countrywide on Friday if they don't teachers by the end of today," said Mr Misori.

He added: "We, the national officials of Kuppet and teachers from counties near Nairobi, will storm Knec headquarters while our colleagues in various parts of the country will go to the sub-county offices."

Statistics from Knec show that a total of 191,555 contracted personnel were engaged during the administration of the 2015 examinations.
